A camping trip just wouldn’t be complete without making s’mores over the campfire. Of course the classic graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow combo will never go out of style, why stop there? Why not add some new flavors and some pizazz to your s’mores? Here are 10 ways to jazz up your s’mores on your next camping trip (or even at home, we won’t judge!)
Smear some peanut butter your graham cracker before you put on the marshmallow and chocolate bar. Yummmy!
Peanut butter cups
Along the same line, use a peanut butter cup in place of the chocolate bar. Peanut butter and chocolate can only be made better by the addition of grahams and marshmallows, right?
Use a different cracker
Change up your chocolate
Try using different flavors of chocolate – white chocolate, dark chocolate, cookies and cream chocolate bars, chocolate bars with almonds or hazelnuts. The possibilities are truly endless, any chocolate bar you can imagine would be an awesome stand in for regular ol’ milk chocolate.
It’s probably too cold to camp around Easter in most places, but you might want to grab some extra marshmallow chicks in the after-Easter sales, because wouldn’t that make an awesome sub for regular marshmallows in a s’more?
Strawberries, bananas or raspberries would take your s’mores to a whole different level of gourmet. And adding fruit makes it practically healthy, right? So go ahead and make a few.
What is better than caramel and chocolate? Oh, I don’t know, caramel, chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers! I think this is probably my favorite combination of all. The caramel combo can be achieved by either adding soft caramel candies, caramel sauce or using chocolate cover caramel candies in place of the chocolate bar.
Make it in an ice cream cone
A sugar cone or waffle cone makes a great reinvented s’more. Just stuff the cone with some broken up chocolate bar or chocolate chips and some mini marshmallows, wrap the cone in some foil and set it on the hot coals for 3-5 minutes. Pro-tip be sure to put a marshmallow at the bottom of the cone so the chocolate doesn’t leak out the hole! Feel free to add any (or all) of the other s’more toppings listed above to make an ultimate s’more cone!
Instead of making individual s’more, make it a party! Melt your chocolate and marshmallows in a pan over the fire and dip your crackers right in. This would be a great way to incorporate pretzels into s’mores, pretzels may not make great individual s’mores, but they sure do dip well and pretzels and chocolate are amazing together, so why not?!
S’mores grilled “cheese”
Replace the cheese in your grilled cheese with marshmallows and chocolate and you’ve got an awesome dessert sandwich! Make it even better by using a slightly sweet brioche bread or even pound cake. These would be another great place to add in other toppings like fruit, caramel or peanut butter, just be careful because it might make a big mess in the pan!
